I have changed Achaea's in-guilding system somewhat dramatically, to
help alleviate the problem with guilds blowing off newbies who want to
join.
Newbies may now automatically join any guild they wish by going to Delos
and finding Certimene (HELP CERTIMENE). At this point, they will be a
Novice in the guild (HELP NOVICES). This means that they only have 2 of
the three guild skills, and that they are limited to learning them to
the end of the Adept skill level.
Anyone guild rank 10 and up may GUILD PROMOTE <novice> to give them the
third skill and remove the learning limits. INGUILD still works as
before, and skips the novice period. When a Novice quits or is kicked
out, he/she gets all his/her lessons back, so there is no penalty that
way. Once a Novice quits or is kicked out, Certimene will not allow them
entrance into that guild again (must speak to a normal guild member
about it).
Now, as I said, this was done to help alleviate the fact that guilds are
upsetting many newbies with fairly outrageous requirements to become a
guild member. Naturally you'll want to interview newbies before
promoting them, but if the bottleneck moves from getting them into the
guild to promoting them, then we're going to end up just letting people
choose their class totally without guild involvement.
So, it definitely behooves the guilds of Achaea to ensure that newbies
are regularly and quickly being promoted out of novice, or guilds will
end up having to lose much of their power over classes.
Oh, also, when a novice buys credits, the guild doesn't get any, so
that's another incentive.
