rage and chat channels

After the overwhelming vote in favour of increased encouragement of
roleplay last week, I had made a list of many possible ways to increase
roleplay. One of those was eliminating the chat and rage channels. I
wasn't really sure this was something we wanted to do however, until
today.
During what was really quite a neat thing from my perspective, a group
of players, lead by Cathor, decided, on their own, to hold a ritual in
the hopes of bringing back Gaia. We saw this was going on and decided
that you know what, this is the perfect time to bring Gaia back. So we
did. Some spoilsport enchanters decided to do some holobombing
(hilarious image) and as the ritual was held in Gaia's temple, She took
immediate action and turned the offenders into ash.
So, what we have is really a nice little roleplay scenario, entirely
created by the players and reacted to by us, that is then completely
_ruined_ for anyone listening to chat by idiots like Radagast saying
(paraphrased), "Oh, that's just Sarapis playing Gaia so that he has an
IC excuse to zap them." Not only is this not true, (because how could
Sarapis, a character, play Gaia, another character. Only the person
behind Sarapis could play Gaia, though that wasn't the case), but it's
absolutely the _worst_ kind of RP. And it is exactly that kind of a
complete lack of worth that has made us decide to get rid of chat and
rage. They are used, as far as any of us in the Garden can tell, mainly
as a place to talk out of character about whatever people want and,
further, to actively try and ruin any attempt by other people at RP.
So, no more. Radagast isn't completely to blame, though he is certainly
one of the prime offenders. He is, however, the straw that broke the
camel's back.
Let me end by saying that if you have no interest in roleplaying, I'd
suggest you go find another MUD to play, because life in Achaea may no
longer be to your taste.
Penned by my hand on the 7th of Scarlatan, in the year 279 AF.
