The Purge

Its that time again. Due to the number of reports we receive on a dayly basis, quite often our bug system becomes very cluttered with reports that have been either completed and not deleted, or where they have been completed but more reports have come in after and not been cleared out. The net result of this is that over time the bug system fills up and our ability to hit important bugs slowly goes down. To combat this, we do a bug purge every few years, completely resetting the status of the bug system: that time is now.
What this means for you all is that if you encounter bugs that do still exist you will want to resubmit them. The team will be able to get to them much faster, as the list will be almost empty. It is important that you do verify the bug does still exist before resubmitting (as otherwise that invalidates most of the net gain from this kind of purge). Of course, we also have some new things to announce regarding our bug system to go with the purge, as is tradition:
- You may now QUESTBUG, SHIPBUG, CLIENTBUG, or HELPBUG to submit your bug in the appropriate category. This helps them get noticed faster, and is basically equivalent to submitting a typo via the already existing TYPO command in terms of functionality.
- Additionally, bugs now have a 100 real life day lifetime. After this period they are automatically archived. If the issue still persists, you may submit the report with any new information. It is our hope that auto deleting reports after a certain amount of time has elapsed will result in not needing to do bug purges in the future, as duplicate reports will naturally leave the system over time.
Thank you for your understanding.
