We're having a contest, and giving out prizes too, to give a name to the
cyclical sidereal conjunction! What is that, you may ask? Read on!
Time Cycles in Achaea
---------------------
Achaea has many cycles, some more familiar, some less:
- The daily cycle, marked by evening and morning, dark and light.
- The monthly cycle, marked by the motion of the moon.
- The yearly cycle, marked by motion around our sun.
- The cycle marked by the motion of the visible planets.
- The sidereal cycle, marked by the motion of the constellations.
All Achaeans know from their youths up the names of the months, that
there are 25 days in each month and 12 months in a year, for a total of
300 days in each year.
Most know that the planets rule a much longer period of multiple years,
as Noxtra, Lunastra, and Somnustra danced through the heavens before
their untimely destructions.
The Mysterious Cycle
--------------------
Few are familiar with the cycle of the stars and constellations: the
cyclical sidereal conjunction, as it has sometimes been called. This
cycle repeats every 29 Achaean years, plus just over two months. Most
know of the celebrations timed to this cycle, such as Logosmas and
Mayaween, each coming at its appointed time in the cycle.
The Contest
-----------
Submit your best idea for this cycle, both a name and a STORY that goes
behind the name). Submit it via email to clementius@achaea.com. In your
submission, please give:
- your real life name,
- the name of your adventurer to receive the prize if you win,
- the name of the cycle,
- the story of how that name came to be (at least several sentences).
Please, only one entry per person/soul (we'd say one per adventurer, but
some of you have too many alts!).
Submissions will be accepted through GMT 23:59 (11:59 pm) on January
9th, 2007, which is about a week from the posting of this announcement.
NO EXCEPTIONS! The email must be received by that time, no matter when
you sent it.
The Prizes
----------
The person behind the winning entry will receive 333 credits. Second,
111 credits. Third, 33 credits, and Fourth, a boon.
There is a good chance that the winning entry will provide the basis(+)
for an entry in Achaean lore and become a part of the history and/or
mythos of Achaea.
+ We reserve the right to edit or modify the entry in any manner.
Administrivia
-------------
If two submit exactly the same name for the cycle, then the better story
will prevail. If both name and story are the same, then both will be
disqualified. Other levels of similarity will be handled as the judges
see fit. All decisions of the judges are final. All submissions become
property of Iron Realms Entertainment.
If you have questions about the contest, you may message Clementius in
Achaea.
Penned by my hand on the 4th of Aeguary, in the year 440 AF.
