So, of course I and the rest of the admin team are aware that there's a
lot of consternation from some of you about auto-class and the upcoming
House system. We've heard some pretty out-there accusations about how we
don't care about you, are trying to ruin RP in Achaea, how all we care
about is selling credits, and so on. These are, frankly, accusations
that are a little nave. I mean, yes, we care about selling credits, but
how do we do it? It's not like we make you pay to play. You buy credits
when you feel like Achaea is worth it, and it's up to us to try to
provide you with that kind of environment. Beyond that, there is no way
we'd be doing this for a living if we didn't care about the games
themselves. There are easier ways to pay your rent that don't involve
people screaming at you and calling you morons and phone calls at 4 am
after a crash. And what about all our dedicated volunteer Gods? They do
it -purely- for love of Achaea.
Yes, auto-class and Houses are big changes. But embrace change! Houses
allow guilds that convert to preserve their guild culture if they want,
or to evolve into something new if they want. The options for
roleplaying are greatly increased by this.
Yes, there has probably been an increase in irritating alts. This will
die down, and where it's too big a problem (like the holobombing of
forests), it will be fixed. I have nothing against alts, but I dislike
ones just there to be annoying as much as any of you.
What I'm saying is that even if you disagree with the changes, I urge
you to consider the possibilities that shaking things up opens up.
Houses are the #1 priority right now and we will be developing them
reasonably quickly.
Once they're developed, I'd like to announce here and now that ships are
going to be the next big system to go in. I can't promise they'll go in
quickly, as it's going to be a very big job, but work has been ongoing
for some time on island areas to sail to, and we have a handful of them
done or near done already.
Penned by my hand on the 16th of Chronos, in the year 392 AF.
