BFU - Big F*cking Upgrade

After the hardware failure and subsequent failure of the backups
courtesy of our old co-lo facility, we of the Powers That Be gathered
together deep inside the mountain on which the Garden rests. Indeed,
with only nectar (denying ourselves ambrosia), we plotted and planned. I
won't go into all the details, but suffice it to say that we have:

1. Bought all new servers for Achaea, as well as Imperian and Aetolia,
plus a fourth server to run all non-game stuff, like the websites and
email and such, so free up as much CPU time for the games as possible.
See the bottom of this post for the server specs if you're interested.

2. Gone through two co-location facilities. We left our previous one
(Wolfpaw) and put the new servers into Coloserve in downtown San
Francisco. We got fed up with them after 2 weeks of banging our heads
against the walls trying to get our firewall to work with their, um,
interesting (crappy) network setup.

3. Finally, we decided to just go with the best and trust that they
would be good to us. We weren't wrong. We're hosted now with Above.net
(http://www.above.net/products/hosting.html), in the same building as
Google, Sun, and RealNetworks. This is a -serious- place, and is one of
the major hosting facilities in the world. The bulletproof glass in the
lobby was just the start of its impressiveness. =)

We're now live on the new servers at the new place. I believe you'll
notice less lag now, and I can promise our uptime will be much improved.

New Hardware
------------
1. Watchguard Firebox firewall

2. Achaea machine:
3.2 gig Xeon processor with a massive 2 meg cache
2 gigs RAM
Dual 73 gig SCSI drives using hardware RAID1 mirroring
Dual hot-swappable power supplies.

3. Web machine:
Dual 2.8 gig Xeon processors
1 gig RAM
Dual 73 gig hot-swappable SCSI drives with RAID1
Dual hot-swappable power supplies.

4. "Those other realms" (identical machines)
2.8 gig Xeon
1 gig RAM
Dual 73 gig hot-swappable SCSI drives with RAID1
Dual hot-swappable power supplies.

Penned by my hand on the 14th of Sarapin, in the year 361 AF.
