Xianty, a few points if I may.
To my understanding, people have complained about how difficult it is to fight rites (and by extension, shrines) effectively, seeing as how they were formerly the Church's bases of power abroad. By removing the shrines component, it both decreases the oppositions ability to fight and increases the power of the rite. The reasoning for this is opponents can not destroy a rite's "home" (shrine), making it impossible to fight. Furthermore, those making the rite no longer need to go through the bother of making shrines, and can do them everywhere... I presume this is a benefit.
You point out that we should all be happy with our guilds... nowhere does it say that happy people/guilds don't stand up for their views.
I fear you may have drastically misread the situation you are trying to argue a side of, suggested by the weak benefits you have suggested are in place for non-Church guilds.
