Gawain and the Church

Written by: Phaestus, the Smith
Date: Sunday, May 10th, 1998
Addressed to: Eris, Goddess of Chaos

Firstly, I never leave the land, either I am at work in places that would rip your essence asunder in seconds and scatter it across the Aether, or I simply choose to travel abroad in guises that you cannot penetrate. I have travelled the length and breadth of this Universe and several others, however, it has been a long time since I choose to do so.

Secondly, I personally, have always found Gawain to be a humble man, and thought he would be pleased to be recognised as such, even if he does show great strength of character, foresight, courage and aptitude.

The Church's lot in Achaea has never been an easy one, and under the circumstances, Gawain, as well as all his comrades, have been a shining beacon of light, that, unfortunately, more of the mortals have not recognised and rallied around.

As far as I am aware, the Church has never chosen an official leader to represent her, though, at times, as her first member, and the leader of the Templars, Gawain is forced to assume that role. The fact remains that he is not responsible to you, nor anyone else for the actions of the Church as a whole, but merely of the Templars, and, as such, he need not be singled out by you for your particular attention and public humiliation due to the perceived failings of the Church as a whole.

Penned by my hand on the 13th of Aeguary, in the year 191 AF.
