i settle in like we did
those centuries ago
and set my unworthy fingers
to hollow the giving earth
and lean my lips in close
hushed lest the dead hear
and dribble my promises
right into the hungry earth
and seed my libidinous words
as a song in the wrathful earth
and coax with my disgusting hands
new mountains of the lonely earth
and trap our secrets beneath
to take root
i hope this child too grows
strong enough to dismember me
i can wait another life
to hear their limbs scrape in the deep
to taste their sickly sweet caution
to feel their ambition ensnare me
to know love as they break me
