A rose is only lovely until you prick your finger
A lass only lovely if her nagging does not linger
Yet it takes more to be lovely in your eyes
but less if I hide all my flaws behind lies.

Without its thorns to contrast its bloom
With no smile to lighten up a day's gloom
Would a rose be so lovely or a lass so fair
if you did not realize that it was even there?

So, I am only lovely if you see my faults
My snort as I laugh and my trip as we waltz
For if I was all perfect you'd think me so droll
and see no reason to have loved me at all.

I'll keep all my thorns and keep all my chatter
since no one else's opinion does matter
With flaws and imperfections, lovely I am
If I cannot accept myself then nobody can.

Now can they?
