The resonating sound of grinding and trembling stone within the looming Spire of Horror alerted Mhaldor to something terribly wrong. Immediately, concerned members of the Blood Congregation entered their estate to discover strange gashes in the masonry oozing viscid, black liquid onto the floor. When they investigated the pooling liquid, suffocation or entrapment within a strange fluidic space followed instantaneously.
Soon thereafter, the phenomenon repeated within the Spires of Annihilation, Torment, and Hatred. The denizens of the four Spires were clueless to the cause and became deeply alarmed when the phenomenon began to spread, engulfing entire rooms of each house hall.
The members of the Blood Congregation, Maldaathi, Naga, and Ebon Fist agreed; the spires must be evacuated. One by one, tutors and notables were ordered to abandon their long-standing homes, save for a few holdouts. Some perished while others remain trapped within the transforming spaces.
Calling a great conference, Jaracacas, Rasbora, and Zanshin secreted away to debate what must be done. Though divided initially, the three learned tutors and the leadership of Mhaldor reached an unavoidable conclusion: the Spires must be sealed, and Mhaldor must regroup along new lines.
A great crowd of Mhaldorians gathered before Lord Sartan, and soon the work began. With the destruction of each Spire's entrance, they sensed the connections to their houses end.
The stalwart forces of Evil were not to be deterred, however. The fleeting sense of isolation was replaced quickly by characteristic Mhaldorian determination. Planning commenced at a furious pace and within months, Mhaldor regrouped, forming two nascent houses: The Dread Legates and the Insidium.
Penned by My hand on the 23rd of Valnuary, in the year 668 AF.
