It was late afternoon when a lone, golden figure washed up on the shore
near the Aalen forest. The metallic man first approached the Viridian
Tygrin, who was quick to dismiss his pleas for help. Wandering through
the area in search of aid, the strange humanoid finally came upon Cerony
El'Jahiem of Cyrene and, after introducing himself as Giacinto, begged
the priestess to take him to the home of Hycanthus. After consultation
with her citymates, Cerony happily obliged.
Deep in alchemical study, the wizard Hycanthus was stunned when this
unexpected visitor and his guide arrived. "Giacinto!" he exclaimed, "Can
that really be you?" But there was little time to reminisce. Giacinto
quickly explained that he required Hycanthus's help on an island far to
the west, and soon the three found themselves aboard the ship Three
Moons, captained by Lynara Celes'Ciel and accompanied by Quoren Ironson,
Cristine Vas'amaen-Legacy, and Celas Celes'Ciel.
Working from only his own ancient memories, Giacinto guided the party
beyond Polyargos and Tuar. As the ship made sluggish progress through
the tempestuous waters of the Sefyric Ocean, he and Hycanthus were able
to answer some of the questions the passengers posed. Centuries ago,
Giacinto had been a human and the two researched the nature of the world
together. An argument over the ethics of their discoveries sent Giacinto
seeking out a new land, and after a rough, storm-driven journey, the
alchemist found himself upon a mountainous island now known as Ageiro.
An attempted ritual had gone horribly awry, leaving him and the rest of
the island in its current state.
As soon as Three Moons docked, the adventurers understood the severity
of the backlash: every creature on the island, from the smallest spider
to the once-human inhabitants, had been transformed to living metal.
Though the two alchemists pondered their options long and hard, they
were forced to admit nothing could yet be done. Bidding farewell to his
old, reconciled friend, Hycanthus returned to his own home to study the
matter further.
