11.7.18 Valnurana, the Goddess of Sleep & Dreams
Somewhere between the waking world and the subconscious lies the Dream, a realm nightly glimpsed by the uninitiated, but clear as day to those who walk it. There the thoughts, feelings, and premonitions of mortal and immortal alike manifest, often in forms too terrifying or oblique for the conscious mind to comprehend. The Lady of this liminal space, the Elder Goddess Valnurana, is both its warden and its source, the font of inspiration from which all dreams are born. From Her flows the dark matter of the primordial Dream; without Her, it ceases to be. Those who slumber without guilt are greatly healed and restored by the Maiden's grace. The veil of blessed Sleep descends with Her benediction, guarding the soul as it wanders the Somnolent Halls against that which it fails to reckon with while awake. One's darkest fears and blackest self are here, carried upon the nightmarish wings of Her angels amid the horrors of the night. To walk the ravening, maiming Dream is perilous, yet the truths within have long been pursued by ancient cults, prophets, scholars, mystics, and madmen. The oracles of Valnurana take this peril unto themselves, possessing the gift of clairvoyance and the wisdom to know when to give voice to the unspoken and unseen.
