12.8.8 The art colony of Caer Witrin

Caer Witrin, high in the Vashnar mountains off the Cyrene road, is a settlement
of artists and crafters from all over Sapience. Sheltered beneath the mountain
from which it takes its name, it is a site of stunning natural beauty, although
the residents are too aware also of the hazards of life high in the mountains.
The bitter winds can kill the unwary, and the heavy snow that makes the town so
picturesque also blocks off the pass in winter, leaving the town isolated. The
locals are friendly and helpful, more so to visitors who have proven their
goodwill over time. The town guards are well drilled, and form a cooperative
and organised unit defending the town against any threat.
